Joe hadn’t been in the backyard since May. The leaves on the trees had turned yellow and fallen to the ground. He sighed, great, another task to add to my to-do-list. As he approached the shed, he heard a sound like someone’s walking. “Honey, are you in there?” No answer. He noticed the orange outdoor cable on the ground and hurried back to the house where he found his wife, Chelsea, reading a book at the table.
“Did you get it?” She asked without looking up.
“I swear there’s someone out there.” Chelsea stared at him. “In the shed.” Joe pointed at the shed. “The orange cable is rolled out all the way and it’s plugged into the wall.”
“It’s probably a squirrel.” Chelsea said.
“A squirrel?” Joe arched his brow and together, they went out to the backyard.
A scream caused them to run to the shed where they found none other than their son, Derek, watching a football game. “I thought you moved out.” Joe said.
“Oh, hi mom, dad. I got evicted.”

I initially went with a drifter but I changed it to the son to bring some humor. Thank you for reading. 🙂

Hahaha! Surprise, your son has moved back home! Cute story Yinglan. I’m sure the parents were very surprised by their son’s unexpected return. Great surprise ending to this lovely story!

Ha ha, great ending. Poor parents, sure they thought they had got their house back for themselves! Nice one.

Thank you. 🙂 I feel bad for them, just when they thought their child’s out in the world on their own, the child come bouncing back.

Great take Yinglan, had me going as to what it might be….you’d think he would said he was back wouldn’t you…

Thank you. Perhaps, he wanted his return to be secret so he wouldn’t get a lecture from his parents about getting evicted. 🙂

Really good, like the build up of tension and the twist at the end, works well. Can anyone take part in doing this or do you have to join up somewhere? Thanks.

Fun story, Yinglan. Just when they thought they were going to have the house to themselves! This reminds me of my brother, actually. My parents were away on holiday one year when he decided to move back in… 🙂

Yes, I know the problem of boomerang kids all too well, as Louise has just mentioned in her comment above. Derek turned out to be a rather big squirrel. I hope he’s happy in the shed. Lol.
