#WeekendCoffeeShare: A “Normal” Weekend

Photo by Nathan Dumlao on Unsplash

Good Monday morning and thank you for joining me in another edition of #WeekendCoffeeShare. Where would you like to go to have this chat of ours today? We are in Downtown Salt Lake City, there are many many places to go. We can go to the food court, we can take a walk in the mall, or we can stick to the spot we went last week which was the coffee shop next door to my work.

Let’s stick with the coffee shop? Okay, let’s go.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you this weekend had to be the most “normal” weekend I’ve had in a month. It was just my mom and me, at home – me bingeing on TV shows and editing my photos while my mom did her own thing. It was rainy, wet, and gloomy outside and neither of us like to go out on those days.

While we were at home, the rest of the family was at work. I’m kinda liking that schedule – them having their weekends in the middle of the week while my mom and I have our weekends on Saturdays and Sundays like normal folks. That way we’ll never have to deal with one another and to tell the truth, I don’t really want to deal with them. Even after nearly a month, they’re still living like they’re on vacation and I don’t want to be the person to administer the dose of reality.

I didn’t (still don’t) want to do what they did to me when I went to China last year. I don’t want to be the one to tell them, “This isn’t China,” like they repeated told me when I was in China, “This isn’t the U.S.”

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I am participating in the A-Z challenge this year. My theme was revealed in this post. I picked a fairly easy and doable theme this year to fit in with my schedule.

To be honest, I have thought about not participating this year because even though I post nearly everyday, there are some days when I just want to take a break and for this challenge, it’s posting everyday and it’s starting to sound scary. But I’m sure if I schedule my time right, I can knock this out of the ball park.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I took a second look at some of my old photos this weekend – the photos I took two years ago in Yellowstone.

The photos were taken under cold, snowy, rainy, icy, and dreary weather. Photos rarely look good under such circumstances, I’ve come to find out. After sitting in my archives for the past two years, I believe it’s time to take a second look.

Finally, if we were having coffee, I would thank you for joining me today and hope to see you back here in a week.

  1. Hi Yinglan. It sounds like things are working out well enough with your family so nearby. I also love the B&W photos you shared. There is something quietly inviting about these kind of shots that force you to slow down, think through the image and draw peace from it – even though very few of us are color blind and actually see the world this way. It remains remarkably soothing. Thanks for sharing and for the visit.

    Blessings.

    1. I guess you can say things are working out, in a way, but deep down, I do wish they’re thousands of miles away back in China instead of here only holler when they need something from me. Maybe it’s just been too long since I’ve had a “real” family nearby that it will take some time for me to get use to the fact I’m no longer alone.
I agree with you about the pictures, there’s something about them that makes one slow down and feel the peace and serenity of the water and landscape.
      Thank you for visiting. 🙂

  2. I love that last photo! Sometimes is great to take out old goodies and give them a second chance. Our opinion of what a good photo actually is, can change dramatically as we get more experienced. I’m so happy to hear you had a great weekend. I know I’m slightly alter for our coffee, and I apologize. Last weekend was crazy, but I wanted to catch up with all of my coffee friends anyways. I hope your new week is fabulous!

    1. Thank you. I agree, our opinion about a photo can change over time and I think the editing of the photo can change based on our mood.
This week has been okay so far, weather has been a little dreary but at least it’s warming up. I hope this weekend’s weather will be better. I hope your week is going well too. Thank you for joining me for this chat. 😊
