100 Word Wednesday: Camping Trip


Melanie rests her chin on her hands on the window ledge of her father’s car. She had always liked her father-daughter camping trips during the summer. It was a great way to escape the 100-degree heat even for a short time. “I’m going to miss this.” Melanie says, closing her eyes, letting the light breeze caress her face.

“Me too.” Her father sighs, thinking that in a matter of weeks, Melanie will be across the country, attending college at her dream school, Stanford. We will find a way to do this again, her father thinks, staring ahead, suppressing a cry.

  1. My mum was happy AF when I went off to college. I think she realized she needed me around when she couldn’t clean the kitchen as well as I used to. Ahahahahha!
