Having been down on my luck lately, Becky recommended me to head to New Orleans to see her friend, a fortune-teller-slash-voodoo-priestess. I’ve never been a big believer of such things but Becky swore by the priestess’s miracles. So I decided to take a day-trip to the French Quarter.
“Welcome child.” The priestess rejoiced cheerfully the moment I stepped into the shop.
“Um, my friend, Becky, recommended you to me.” Immediately, I halfheartedly wanted to bolt but instead, I stood there, imagining the miracles performed by this priestess. “She said you perform miracles?”
She tapped her chin, “Ah, Becky, lovely girl indeed and yes, child, I do perform miracles.” She gestured me to sit down. “Now, tell me, child, what troubles have you encountered?” Before I could say anything, she exclaimed, “Oh my my my, your luck’s been down lately. I got just the thing to turn your luck around.”
She stood up, searched around the shop, and returned with a 3-by-3 square piece of paper. My jaw dropped, “That’s your idea, a game of tic-tac-toe?”
