#WeekendCoffeeShare: Quiet Holiday Week

Good Saturday morning! Thank you for joining me. Come on in for some cold drinks, shall we? It’s supposed to be near 100-degrees today, which makes me want summer gone and wish winter would come.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I’m going hiking today and therefore, our chat will be shortened. It’s my first hike in, I think, three weeks. To be honest, under this kind of temperature, I would rather be in my basement, surfing the web or sleeping but since I need the exercise and the place I’m going for my hike is said to be cooler than my house. So why not?

If we were having coffee, I would tell you it’s been a quiet week at work as most are taking the week off for Independence Day. I was quite glad for the quietness at work. I’m all for excitement but at a workplace, I do prefer peace and quiet.

Speaking of work, I checked the electronic file room yesterday and noticed I sent out 214 invoices last month. Wow, I thought, because I checked the other months and those averaged 120 invoices. Oh, and did I mention those 214 invoices are just from mail orders alone? I didn’t check the number of invoices for online orders but I’d imagine that number will be much greater since an average of 30 orders come in each day.

The first thing that came to my mind – I need to slow down. I’m going to put myself out of a job at the speed I’m going. Seriously, that’s when the job becomes dull, is when I’m just sitting around waiting for the time to pass.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I finished reading another book during the last week. It’s strange that I now rather read than watch anything on TV. I’m also finally learned to take advantage of my Amazon Prime membership – borrowing kindle books for free. There are quite a few of very good books on there. I started reading a new book yesterday – Life After Coffee by Virginia Franken. I’ve just finished reading the first chapter, so I can’t really tell you what I think yet.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I spent three hours yesterday waiting for my mom while she had a colonoscopy. We returned to work afterwards. My mom seemed fine. She wasn’t someone who would take the day off just before she had some kind of procedure done. I tried to get her to stay home before, I gave up. So I wasn’t even going to try this time. She’s stubborn. So I’ll just let her be stubborn.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I had a lot of fun participating in the 4th of July parade this year. I got some pictures of the floats but mostly, I got pictures of the crowds and the children along the parade route. Just about every child was holding some kind of bag, which made me think of Halloween. Some approached, begging for candy. I even heard a little boy shout, “Candy” at the top of his lungs.

Children are crazy about their candies, aren’t they? I thought. By the end of the parade, however, we have run out of candies and I started to see some disappointed faces on children, especially those whose bags were empty. It was like coming home from trick-or-treating empty-handed. I felt bad for them.

Anyway, here are some of the pictures from the parade.

If we were having coffee, I would thank you for joining me this week and hopefully, I will be back next weekend.

  1. Very cool my friend. You do keep yourself busy despite 2 demanding jobs. Have fun on your hike, where lots of sunscreen and bring water. I’m a huge fan of Swell water bottles, they come in many designs, and 3 sizes, but they keep your water cold for 24 hours and hot for 12. They are perfect to carry, out in your little backpack, or under your arm. I hope you can find some shade on the trail too. Have a goos one 🙂

    • Hi Amanda, the hike was great although I got lost getting to the trailhead and ended up to had to hike alone. It was still good though and I managed to get a ton of pictures. Thank you for reading. 🙂

      • Oh no, not that kind of lost, it was the driving kind of lost. I got lost driving to the trailhead this morning. I missed the turn on the road and ended up going twenty miles more than I should. I’d be afraid to get lost on the trail too.

Unfortunately, I didn’t find my group and ended up completely most of the trail before turning around for the parking lot.
