A follow-up to this story…
“Do you remember the fire that made the news a few years ago?” I nodded. “She’d lived on the second floor with her daughter. The fire was investigated for months but still, the fire investigator couldn’t conclude whether the fire started accidentally or intentionally.”
“So did she…”
“Perish?” My aunt closed her eyes and nodded. “She woke to the fire but when she tried to get out of the bed, the floor collapsed and she fell along with it with her daughter next to her.”
“Oh,” I sighed as a part of me sank, knowing I’ll never know my half-sister.
