Friday Fictioneers: A Cruel Reminder

PHOTO PROMPT © Claire Sheldon

Clara keeps a plastic cup full of removed staples on her desk. It’s the oddest thing ever and when I asked her about it, she told me it’s a cruel reminder of how no one listens to her. She’s the accountant of the company and in order to properly record an invoice or receipt into the computer, she must scan the invoices and receipts which she couldn’t do smoothly because she’s spending all her time removing staples. “Everyone, do NOT staple invoices and receipts together,” She once stood on her desk and announced to everyone with a bullhorn. Everyone laughed.

Each week, Rochelle Wisoff-Fields-Addicted to Purple hosts Friday Fictioneers where we’re challenged to write a piece of flash fiction in 100 words, more or less, based on the picture above.

  1. There are often such people who are meticulous in their jobs but completely ignored in the office. This reminds me of a scene in FRIENDS where Phoebe goes to console a similarly ignored worker who is suicidal. Well done in this prompt, cheers. Varad
