Do you prefer juice or fruit?

There are fruits which I prefer it in juice-form while there are fruits which I prefer to eat it just as it is. Like apples, I would prefer it in juice form since after braces, my teeth are fragile. It can move! On the other hand, I would not prefer to drink banana. Yuck!

Did you grow up in a small or big town? Did you like it?

old-house

This was my first home. I used to think I grew up in a small town but apparently not. My small town is now a city with more than 3 million people! The small town I’d known is gone. Over the course of a decade and a half, it’s incorporated the nearby villages and towns to form a medium-size city.

I liked growing up here. It was a small-enough town where everyone knew each other. You can basically go up the street and call that person by his or her first name. We spoke the same dialect. We didn’t have to guess if the next person we met spoke Cantonese, Mandarin, or the local dialect. We were like one big family. But that’s all changed since I moved to the U.S. I’ve been struggling since the first day because I didn’t know which Chinese I should speak. The cashiers at supermarkets spoke all kinds of Chinese. So confusing!

If you were to paint a picture of your childhood, what colors would you use?grandpas-home

I spent a lot of time here during my childhood and in the recent weeks, I’ve been coming back to my grandpa’s home for dinner almost every night and as I arrive on this street, memories would begin flooding back to the days when I would play on the street, when cars hadn’t yet taken over the street, when I would bother the convenient store lady to sell me pens and notebooks during nap hour. So if I paint a picture of my childhood, I would paint this – color red for the brick houses, the color gray for concrete, and green for trees.

Ways to Relax List: Make a list of what relaxes you and helps you feel calm.

  • Reading a thriller novel – I know that’s one least likely way to relax but when I read a thriller, I would find myself immersed into the book and that takes me away from reality and it’s relaxing.
  • Soaking in a hot spring pool
  • Watching a TV series
  • Spending a day at home doing nothing
  • Immersing myself in nature
  • Shutting my eyes and imagine myself in a faraway place
