The house rumbled as her husband grabbed her hands. “Let me help you to the bedroom.” The Outsiders had attacked them with an EMP.
“No!” She screamed as beads of sweat poured from her forehead. “It’s too late, my water’d just broke. She’s coming.”
“Okay,” he stood, his mind suddenly blanked. “Warm water, towel, blanket.” He ran about the house, collecting supplies. “All right, honey, push.” He returned moments later.
“I’m trying!” She screamed.
“Just a little more.” A high-pitch cry began to fill the air. He held his baby girl in his arms and whispered, “Welcome to the world.”
