Friday Fictioneers: Empty Bed

The blurry image of a boardwalk formed in her head. Where am I? Squeezing her eyes tightly shut, she poured her concentration into deciphering the image.

Walking down the boardwalk, she ran her hands along the wooden railings. Her surroundings began to clear. Ahead stood a pagoda, beneath the red roof was her fiance. He was smiling radiantly. She starting running but never seemed to get close. In fact, her fiance seemed to be drifting further. “Come back!” She yelled.

Her eyes sprang open. She sat up, rubbed her eyes, and suddenly realized her fiance wasn’t there.
