“Isn’t this nice?” John said sipping his wine, “I can’t believe your sister managed to empty the entire restaurant for us. It must had cost her a lot of business.”
“Hmm mm,” Amy replied absentmindedly, looking down at the seat next to her.
“Ames?” John called, “Ames, what are you doing?”
“Huh?” Amy’s head popped up as John stood, looking over the table. Amy’s iPad was propped up on top of her purse’s hard exterior. Playing on the screen was a video footage of their kitchen.
John walked around the table and seized the iPad. “Amy, this is our date night. Remember how much you liked those?”
Amy reached longingly for the iPad, “Yeah, but that was five kids ago, John.” She sighed. “You know I don’t trust others to look after them, right?”
Feeling resigned, John propped the iPad on the table and together, the two of them watched the silent video playing and as the baby clapped her hands, John saw his wife smile for the first time in a long time.
