Flash Fiction for Aspiring Writers: Imprisoned

Let’s picture the story of The Little Mermaid in an alternate universe…

Joggers would run by this estate everyday and would smile at the girl on the other side of the wrought iron gate, a little jealous of her luxurious life. Little did they know that this was her eternal prison.

Ariel sat on the stone bench as she did everyday ever since she was sentenced to life in this dark dreadful place by her Prince Eric who, after their brief argument, fell under the awful spell cast by none other than the sea witch Ursula. Ursula had once again stolen Ariel’s voice and her prince and had permanently imprisoned her in the human world.

Ariel sighed. She used to be full of hope that Eric would give every ounce of strength to fight Ursula’s spell but after one year spent behind these iron bars, Ariel’s hope had dimmed. Even her attire had darkened in color. “Hey, there.” A voice caused her head to perk up. A man in white t-shirt and baseball cap approached the gate.

Slowly, Ariel stood and approached the gate.

  1. I agree with Michael. This is excellent! I wonder if this guy will free her of her prison? Sounds like Prince Eric turned out to be a dud.

I have a suggestion and I hope you don’t mind if I suggest this. Have you considered naming your blog, “Yinglan’s World of Stories?” or “Yinglan’s World of Imagination?” or even, “Yinglan’s World?” This blog name is so similar to your last blog’s name, “Just Another Story.” Again, I hope you don’t mind me suggesting it. Or… maybe you could have a contest and have people give you a suggestion and you pick your favorite?
