Monday’s Finish the Story: The Friendly Game


2015-08-10-c2a9-2015-barbara-w-beacham“Where did they go?” John asked. He and his team of five were playing a friendly-game of paintball with his rival company. They were playing to see who would be shutting their business.

“They’re probably scared,” Bob scoffed, “chicken.”

“We ain’t scared,” someone said behind them. It was Jeremy from the rival company. Without hesitation, Jeremy squeezed the trigger and a splat of paint landed on Bob. “Aw no!” Bob cried. and fell.

Nate shot Jeremy. John, Stuart, and Steve surveyed the field behind them while James and Nate surveyed looked out at the wall.

“We can’t even see them.” James said.

“Maybe they’ve got special power or something.” Steve said. Stuart scoffed quietly, “or something.”

“We gotta get into the open.” John said. “If we lose, we lose with dignity. You hear me?” On three, John’s team scattered onto the field and what happened next felt surreal. The other team’s players popping from thin air. Let’s just say, they lost by a landslide.
